The process of manufacturing textiles and clothing causes lots of environmental problems such as pollution and waste. To challenge this industry, Evy Cornelissen proposes an alternative network of self-reliant communities of home weavers who work with discarded materials. She imagines a method of production based not on technology but on a knowledge of warp and weft, using materials and tools close at hand. Her proposal encompasses not only making garments but also exchanging them for other goods, knowlegde or skills, thus benefitting the whole community. We can dress outside the existing system and nurture an intimate relationship with the clothes we wear.
