Flax Collection
FIber, Colour & material studies
Our societies and their continued development are intrinsically linked to our connection with the Earth and its resources. The relationship between humans and flax has evolved significantly throughout history, transitioning from a wild plant to a cultivated resource. Inspired by the concept of ‘Connectedness’ by Krogh (2020) and a pivotal visit to Hørvævsmuseet (DK), this project aims to highlight both the aesthetic qualities of flax fibre and the intrinsic value of the flax plant. These samples delve into the multifaceted nature of flax, exploring its biological, industrial, and human-made dimensions, and its historical meaning symbolising light. The project features a growing collection of samples created through weaving and winding techniques. By sketching within a single-frame format, the material naturally determines the changing compositions.
